Laying Down Bass for “Running High” by John Fazio Jr.

I had the pleasure of playing bass on “Running High,” the latest track from my talented friend John Fazio Jr. Collaborating with John was a creative and inspiring process. From the first time I heard the song, I could feel the energy and movement he was going for—there was a sense of momentum in the track that begged for a bassline that didn’t just sit underneath, but pushed everything forward like Paul McCartney or even John Entwistle.

When I started recording the bass part, I wanted to complement that drive while adding something melodic and a little unexpected. I pulled in some of my Beatles-inspired instincts—those basslines that aren’t afraid to be a little vocal in their own way—and tried to weave a part that felt musical, supportive, and memorable without stepping on anything else in the mix.

John’s response floored me. He said:

“Honestly you did an awesome job on bass, you brought an element to the song I didn’t even hear before but can’t unhear now, the Beatles influence is just the icing—it sounds amazing all the way through. Thank you again for putting your mark on the song.”

That kind of feedback is what it’s all about. As musicians, we’re always hoping to add something meaningful to the music we’re part of—something that enhances the vision without overpowering it. I’m grateful John trusted me to step in and do just that.

“Running High” is a great track and I’m honored to have been a part of bringing it to life. Go give it a listen—you’ll hear John’s signature songwriting shine, and maybe a bassline that takes you somewhere unexpected.
