From the Desk of J.
Hey everyone, it’s J.
How’s life treating you all?
As for me—well, I’ve been on the wildest, most self-imposed healing journey of my life these past few months. Two surgeries (lost 65 pounds), some major disappointments, and a rediscovered passion. Call it a quarter-life crisis, if you will.
Now, I’m working on my next chapter. I’ve decided to stay in Connecticut to pursue my path toward becoming a music therapist. Berklee was out of my price range—but hey, I got accepted, and that’s definitely going on the resume. I didn’t pass my App State audition, and yeah, that one hurt. I almost went for Rowan in Jersey, but after performing with Ralph Riello’s Alpha Dog project, something in me clicked. I realized I need to stop running from myself and face everything head-on.
A dinner with my dad sealed it—I’m staying. Between my radio job, local gigs, and an affordable university, everything I need is right here in CT. I’ve applied to Southern and am waiting to hear back on my aid package. I plan to dorm—time to finally get that out-of-the-house experience.
Also—crazy news—Search Lights (both the song and music video), my radio show Unlikely Places, and yours truly have been nominated for seven ISSA Awards. That’s right—seven. I’m officially a finalist. It still doesn’t feel real. This kind of recognition means the world to me after everything I’ve pushed through lately, and it’s a reminder that I’m on the right path.

Being sick with the flu last week and going through two surgeries taught me to slow down. But once I’m back on my feet, I’ll be moving again—I like being busy. The key now is finding balance.
I’m stepping into writing too, and plan to share more of my journey here. Hopefully, you’ll see me on a music blog soon—so stay tuned!
P.S. My next single “Some Way” drops June 26th—mark your calendars!
